What makes a good writer?

What makes a good writer? How come only a few writers’ writing comes alive; their words breathe, conjuring the effect of an organic entity? How do some writings connect so deeply that it appears to be the work of an engineered soul tangling with readers’ emotions?

There is no magical formula which eternally works and can serve as an answer to these questions. Some blessed souls just seem to be natural writers- they can write perfectly synchronized elegant sentences, expressing the inexplicable, creating a world out of words so clear, pristine and pure. However, here are some of the universal characteristics of good writers.

1) Good writers show not tell; they engage the readers’ presence at the root of the story and have him experience, sense, feel as well as evolve through the characters, situations, and dialogues. A picturesque description is one of the most important characteristics of well-known writers. Nevertheless, they ensure that their descriptions are not extraneous to clog the readers’ attention.

2) The proficient writers always consider the audience they are writing to. Interesting, engaging content is laid out in a manner that satisfies the needs of the readers who must be reading it. An effective writing slowly grabs the reader’s soul without his knowledge.

3) Good writers are those that have the audacity to express the zaniest of their notions to the world. They are the cultivators of fertile imagination that plants itself on a bizarre ground, germinating from the seeds of eccentricity produced by the passionate union of creativity and intellect.

Writers are not just writers; they are creators of the new world, new creatures, new situations, and possibilities. To sum up, one can say that good writing is what makes for good reading.
